Rest again!

I find it hard to rest, I know I am a bit of a "work-a-holic" My wife says that using the word "bit" is kind of a form of denial. I even went through the Celebrate Recover 12 Step Study and really discovered that I am a "work-a-holic". The study was great for me and I think most of us would find tremendous growth by going through the study. However, I have to work at resting... how is that for an oxymoron?
Maybe I am just a moron.

When I really intentionally rest physically, mentally, and psychologically I will grow spiritually.

I want to challenge each of you men to find a time to get alone with God and rest. Discover what works for you. When you rest, talk to God, just talk to Him about whatever you are thinking about.

Take some time to rest!

God bless you,
PJ

  1. I often joke that a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work and I like my job. I will say again that rest comes in many forms. Too many years I have been told that resting on Sunday was directed by God and that I couldn't do anything that was "fun". It is restful for me to go fishing, watch my kids play ball, go for a walk, sit and relax, etc. etc. I don't think I should limit God's directive that I need to rest to just one day a week or to some self proclaimed theologian's idea of a day of rest. Martin Luther had a set time of prayer when he would go to the church, sit in a pew and commune with God. One day, he was very tired and when he sat down in his usual place, he fell asleep. When he woke up he felt refreshed and rested and realized that was also a time of communion with God. Personally, I need rest on a daily basis.

  2. Disclaimer: Self proclaimed theologian is in reference to some of the old time church leaders from my past and in no way references current theologians whom I highly respect and admire. Thankfully my parents were very realistic and gave me a healthy view of the day of rest (Sunday).
